Artificial Intelligence for Automatic Diagnosis

Digital cholangioscopy revolutionized the evaluation of biliary strictures. Artificial intelligence will revolutionize its impact on patient management and follow up. Our group is proud to announce that our work entitled Artificial intelligence for automatic diagnosis of biliary strictures malignancy status in single-operator cholangioscopy: a pilot study has been published on the prestigious journal Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.


In that study, our group developed a convolutional neural network algorithm for automatic distinction of malignant biliary strictures vs. normal or benign findings. Our system had a sensitivity of 94.7%, a specificity of 92.1% and a global accuracy of 94.9%. The development and application of these systems represent a significant leap forward in the diagnosis and subsequent management of patients diagnosed with bile duct malignancy.
